Advancing Apiculture Program
Background
Linton Briggs passed away on 28 April 2020. A giant of the bee industry, his contribution spans decades through his visionary leadership of industry organisations, his contribution to shaping public policy in pollinator services, research and food security, his mentoring of hundreds of budding apiarists across the country, or simply sharing his passion for the world of bees.
Linton’s involvement in apiary industry affairs began in 1955 with the North Eastern Apiarists Association (Victoria) and continued through state and federal organisations, particularly FCAAA and AHBIC, and later as a VAA delegate on timber harvesting resource negotiations, and as a founding board member of the Wheen Bee Foundation.

Linton Briggs Advancing Apiculture Fund
To honour the legacy of Linton’s dedication to the Australian beekeeping industry and his commitment to mentoring and supporting others, the Wheen Bee Foundation has established the Linton Briggs Advancing Apiculture Fund.
This Fund will invest in;
- strengthening the innovation and leadership skills of Australia’s beekeepers
- supporting industry leadership participation and
- building organisational effectiveness to enable bee-related industry organisations to achieve their goals

Linton Briggs 2022 Board Effectiveness Program
The first project to be funded by the Linton Briggs Advancing Apiculture Fund was the Linton Briggs 2022 Board Effectiveness Program
This Program supported three state beekeeping associations to participate in a tailored workshop and follow up coaching sessions run by Dr Judith MacCormick a specialist board advisor. Dr MacCormick advises leading company boards on board effectiveness and issues related to leadership, organisational dynamics and governance. She has worked in Australia, Europe and Asia and consulted to national and multinational companies as well as public and not-for-profit sectors.
The workshop enabled individual state beekeeping association committees to come together to improve their organisational effectiveness and impact through sharpening the focus on their organisation’s strategic goals.
